CHESTNUT MITTENS are fingerless mittens knitted in the round on double pointed needles and have a simple 2x2 ribbing. The hand is knit in stockinette stitch with increases for the thumb gusset, which gives the mitten a nice fit.
These fingerless mittens are an incredibly beginner friendly project. After the written pattern, you will find a detailed photo tutorial. The pictured model is the child mittens, model 1.
The mittens are knitted in LAMAULD or LAMATWEED.
Sizes: Children from age 6 and up (women) men.
Length: Approx. 20 (21.5) 24.5 cm.
Yarn: LAMAULD (50% llama and 50% wool) from CaMaRose.
Alternative yarn: LAMATWEED (40% llama, 40% wool and 20% viscose) from CaMaRose.
Yarn requirement: 1 (1) 1 skein of LAMAULD or LAMATWEED. NOTE! The men’s mittens can only just be knitted from 1 skein of yarn if gauge and measurements are met.
Suggested needle size: 4.5 mm double pointed needles.
Furthermore, you will need: 1 tapestry needle, stitch markers (or scrap yarn), and, if needed, a row counter to keep track of the rounds.
Gauge: Approx. 20 sts x 26 rounds on 4.5 mm needles = 10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch.
If you do not get gauge, try again with smaller or bigger needles.
